I don't think MMBN or Indigo Prophecy are really "underground." The Battle Network series had quite a few sequels and Indigo Prophecy was very well received and sold quite well.

That's more or less what I figured. After Pokemon Pearl failed to please, I just sought out other more original JRPG's to fill in the gap (do other things), but when I heard they were re-making Gold and Silver, I was curious. Since a had a flashcartridge, I could try out the full game without paying Nintendo a dime, so I did just that, and, well...now I'm playing Pokemon Black 2, and it's not even out in the States yet...

Battle network had 7 games in whole series. I do not know a single person who has played them. Indigo Prophecy today is unknown to alot of gamers sadly. i can only find a select few who has played it. MMBN is underground, IP not so much but it still is.

Indigo Prophecy which is also known as Farenheight was actually quite popular from what I recall. It had a lot of hype especially as it was developed by Quantic Dream.

It didn't get much hype in the states. I thought the game was brilliant. It may or may not be underground but regardless, MMBN is. Which is sad because that game is in my top games.

Which makes you extra cool? Because Uncharted is too mainstream?

All the major sites like IGN and Gamespot hyped it a lot and from what I remember it sold pretty well in North America.

Yes, uncharted is wayyy too mainstream. Actually no, Uncharted is overrated. Uncharted 2 is the only game worth playing.

Then again, IGN is possibly the worst reviewing site known to man in alot of people's opinion.

I think the Battle Network series is very well known, but I don't think many people stayed with the series very far into its life. My friends and I all played the first couple, and I've heard lots of others who played them too. Battle Network was a serious franchise (obvious, since it had 6 games, multiple versions of each), and is a serious stretch to call it underground, if not simply false. Indigo Prophecy is a much lesser known title, and would be closer to a sleeper hit, but not really underground.

I played fahrenheit. It's a very good game and thats the reason I bought Heavy Rain. Now Heavy Rain is the reason I'll be buying Beyond. I wouldn't say Fahrenheit is a underground game but it sold very poor for a quality game.

I see... so that's you're reasoning for getting that game.

Well since you asked, after hearing that Ellen Page is going to offer her voice (among other things) to Beyond, I was sold. :D

Indigo is a alot more known game then the BN series. I have yet to find a person who has beaten battle network or gotten through half of one game opposed to alot of people who has beaten indigo. I am tempted to make a poll to prove my point here.

Regardless of which game is lesser known, I think both are relatively well-known titles, and are certainly not underground.

Battle Network Is not very well known/well played. I don't see why you don't see this.

A not well known/played game doesn't get 6 different iterations, multiple spin-offs, and an anime spin-off.

really? look at dragon quest and suikoden. not many people play them unless they are big rpg fans or fans of the series and they both manage to have 8 games aroudn for both series.

Just because they aren't played by the masses doesn't mean they're underground. Just more of a niche game. By that logic, you could consider Monster Hunter underground, which it most definitely is not.

A lot of people in Japan. The US has a significantly smaller install base. Monster Hunter is about as popular as Dragon Quest in Japan. I would consider these all niche games. Not unknown, but not targeted at the mainstream audience.
