Lawking's Motorstorm RC Review Hey guys, this is my first review in the review forums, so it i might not be as constructive like other reviews but i'll try my best Introduction: Motorstorm RC is basically a Micro-Machine style arcade racing game. Evolution Studios are mainly known for developing their Motorstorm games with a down to the ground type of view, but Motorstorm RC takes a whole different route to previous Motorstorm games, by having Micro machines instead of normal cars, and going with a very unique birds eye view. Have Evolution Studios created yet another succsessful motorstorm game? Or is it just a silly gimmick with 'Motorstorm' stamped on it? This review will tell you the answer! The gameplay is very fluid and smooth, making it a very enjoyable experience. The gameplay can get quite intense as the AI cars tend to get harder as you progress, making the game more of a challenge. The cars handle really well, just as you would expect RC cars to handle in real life. The only downer I can really give is that it can get quite annoying because of the amount of times you will accidently make a mistake and lose the event just like that, but a part of it comes down to skill really. Score - 8.5/10 The graphics on this game are brilliant considering it's a birds-eye view sort of game. The detail put into the dirt, snow, water effects on the game are stunning, making it quite a realistic RC experience. While the graphics for the game do look better while it's played on the PS3, they're just as visually stunning as you would expect them to be on the vita. The music on this game is very catchy! Their isn't much variety in terms of the music, but the music you get, has a lot of rhythm and fits the game very well. The sound effects for this game are all that you would expect. The RC engine sounds like an RC engine and the water splashing sound effects sound very realistic too. Again, their isn't much of a variety when it comes to sound effects, but it's more about quality then anything else in this case. The amount of content you get with the game for the price tag (£4,79 here in the UK) is insane. You get 4 Festival event's: Monument Valley, Pacific Rift, Arctic Edge and Apocalypse. The 'Festival' is classed as the main campaign, but there is more content beyond it. Their is also a 'Playground' section within the game which allows you to free ride and do whatever you feel like. Upon completing event's in the campaign you will unlock more areas within the Playground which you can also explore. Their is also 2 pieces of DLC content which include two new Festival event's: Pro-Am and Carnival. And to top it off, there's a bunch of vehicles you can buy from the PSN Store, some of which are free! The content on the game is long enough to keep you entertained for atleast 8 hours, but most of you will be wondering if it's a game your going to keep coming back to upon completion for more... The games main replayability feature is the 'pitwall'. The pitwall posts your friends times on several events and encourages you to beat them if they have done better than you. This can be good if you love being at the top of the leaderboards, but it gets quite boring very quickly. SummaryGameplay - 8.5: The gameplay is very smooth, and the Ai's prove to be quite the challenge. However it's so easy to make a mistake and fail. Graphics - 9.0: The graphical appearence of the game is very strong, dirt, snow and water effects are perfected to the max. While the PS3 version is more of a luxurious treat for the eyes, the PS Vita also look's great on the vita's 5" OLED SD screen too. Music/Sound Effects - 8.0: Their isn't a lot of music in the game, but what we are provided works effectively and is catchy. Sound effects are'nt to complex, but they also do the job. Content - 9.0 - Their is a lot of content for you to complete in Motorstorm RC, ranging from messing around in your own playground, to completing festival events and trying to get all 3 medals on all of the events within the festival. Their is DLC you can buy too. Replayability - 7.0 - Replayability is what this game seems to lack. The pitwall feature (Leaderboard) is great, but it's not enough to get you coming back for more. Final Verdict - If your looking for a very fun racing game which is cheap as hell, then you need to get your ass on the Playstation store now! (It's also free for US vita owners for a very limited amount of time) Final Score - 8.3/10
Nice review Lawking. Bravo! I very much enjoyed this game, especially for the price tag ($0 US). Hope you write more reveiws, as i thouroly enjoyed this one
Good review, only thing you should watch out for is repeating the same words (especially 'music') over and over again.
I personally agree mostly, but think the graphics score should be a little lower. 7.5 perhaps. I think they could have done much more than they did.
I agree with you somewhat. But considering it's a launch title (Over here in the UK anyways), they did pretty well IMO. Thanks for the feedback.
What's slow-down/fps drops like in this game? The demo wasn't very impressive, but, I love old skool games like this.
Great review! Random tip: Don't ever play when you're sleepy/hungry or you will kill somebody in frustration from restarting over and over from the smallest mistakes that jeopardize winning. I know from experience.
What kind of bugs me in this game is the control scheme. In a real RC car, the left stick controls throttle/reverse and the right one steers the car. The fact that the devs made this backwards just to conform to other racing games bothers me. Wish I could change that in the options.
Really nice review, you exceed some of the other ones here on this forum. And yes the game is indeed really great. It even made me buy some of the PSN purchasable cars. But I do think they made it this cheap is becuz they are actually promoting the other games. Seeing the settings are based on the other games (and named after them) it is a little bit commercially but if that is what it takes to make a game 6 euro or free if youre in US I don't mind. IMO they could have gotten away with making it 15$ and including a few more tracks and cars. Totally agree with your 8.3/10 score.
I agree with your post man. Im sure the company are just trying to build more of a fanbase with the pricing being so low. thanks for the really positive feedback You've made my day
