Of course! I'm a girl, and I've been playing video games ever since I was 5! I just don't tell players I'm female because it usually turns into weird flirting instead of actually playing :D

My best friend, who is a girl, doesn't own a Vita, she just has a memory card and uses my vita for exclusives she wants to play like Uncharted.

I started playing games in the 80s at a time when it was a stigmatized activity for antisocial male children as far from he mainstream as possible.

I've been amazed how gaming has grown over the years to the point where it is massive global cultural industry. It is more widely recognized and accepted as a entertainment and even an art form than ever.

Despite this, I still do not know a single female who plays games. I would love my wife to play games but she is 100% not interested. All her and my female friends are the same.

So, I have a question for any female gamers on here. Despite its explosive growth into the cultural mainstream, why do you think that gaming is still so predominantly a male activity?

There's a lot of girl gamers out there, we just don't put it out there cos it doesn't really matter, ya know? Gender doesn't matter to me, but sometimes being a girl in a male dominated field can have its negatives...so it's usually best to not mention it or make a huge deal about it. Girls who make a big show of them being a girl just want attention :)

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I wanted to say a few things on this topic. Someone asked on the first page, why wouldn't a girl say she's female, as if was something to be ashamed of. I think the best answer is... how many people who join forums do opening posts like.. hi, my name is X, and I'm a girl/guy? That's kinda dumb.

I'm female. I don't do the "hey I'm female, I'm fluffy, give me attention" thing that some females seems to enjoy doing. Imho it gives us a bad rap, and a lot of guys the totally wrong idea about women in the first place.

There's lots of female gamers, and not just casual gamers either. Sure I like things like Montezuma Blitz and I've been enjoying the Sunflowers demo, but I've also been playing Uncharted GA, Wipeout and Gravity Rush on the Vita. On the PS3, just platinumed Dark Souls (oh yeah!) and enjoyed the hell out of things like Dead Nation, Resident Evil 5.. I really gotta get round to tackling Infamous one of these days. But then I grew up with classic Amiga games like Chaos Engine, Xenon Megablast and Cannon Fodder.

I've lost count the number of times I've been called "dude" on forums simply because I'm straight to the point (being aspie) and don't pepper my posts with words like "sweetie".

I'm not going to say there's more women than men playing games, but I do think there's a whole lot more than people realise. Just a lot of us don't go out of our way to wave the female flag. Not because we're ashamed, but because it simply doesn't matter a whole hell of a lot. We're gamers, plain and simple. If someone was to make a point of asking me if I was male or female I'd have no problem answering them, but otherwise I don't see a reason to drop it into conversations where it has absolutely no bearing on the topic at hand.

Ok, stern hat is coming off.. shall we talk about ponies now? :p

Yes...I'm female and love my vita. Seriously who doesn't love their vita? Sometimes I just find it funny to bring up that I'm a female gamer and get a rise outta these men lol. I grew up with games like Doom, Diablo, Quake, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D. My first "console" was the atari. I loved centipede. Then my dad introduced me to shooters and I loved them! When I was a kid, I would sit on my dad's lap and play hours upon hours of DOOM..or Duke Nukem. Now tho, I have started to expand my library and taste in games. One game I wish would come back would be Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares.

I wish gaming was more geared towards women and society would realize not all girls like pink! I grew up playing with Monster Trucks and what not. Not barbies. Just because a female wants to game.. doesn't mean something is wrong with her or shes going nowhere. Gaming brings out creativity! Not just tablet / facebook gaming but console and hand held. It's ok in this day and age to be a female and to play a shooter, an rpg, a brawler, an action adventure. We shouldn't be looked down upon in society for this, just because we don't follow what society expects of us. It frustrates me when society looks down upon female gamers. To that I say.. screw the societal norm! Do what makes you happy! Be a female gamer and embrace it!

It's pretty amazing to find a hand full of girls that are into gaming on the vita. Nowadays you seldom find that in society.

and i must say, spot on PoisonFantasy! Gaming is way of expressing your creativity to the world. As an artist I always look forward to girls/women who cosplay as their favorite rpg characters at gaming and comic conventions. It means that some girls aren't afraid to nerd or geek out with other guys who have the same interests.

It's more amazing that people generalize in regards to girls being into gaming on the Vita, or gaming in general. You seldom find that in society? Better pick a better way to find things in society.

Well here in socal it's not that common. Girls here would rather spend their money at rodeo drive shopping for clothes and other necessities rather than buy a vita.

How do you determine the amount of girls that have a Vita?

I guess you walk into a gaming store and see them hovering over the ps vita section. Sometimes you can see it in a girl whether she's a gamer or not.

I'd just say give them a little more respect, and less generalized assumptions... just sayin' of course.

Jumping on the other side... as many times as I've been in gamestop, or other stores that sell electronics (consoles, handhelds, etc.), I've never seen ANYONE buying or looking at the Vita.

My bad, i didn't mean to generalize. I was just saying how it looks from my perspective, didn't mean to be rude.

I can go one better than that.. the time I went into Game to have a look at the Vita I had to get the guy to bring it out from under the counter to show me. They had none on display. Now that's great sales tactics.. I did have to laugh though. The staff member beside him had this look on his face like it was the first time he'd seen it too.
